In a decision that experts described as “calendar-adjacent,” the Bellwether City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to remove Monday from the local week. The change is expected to take effect as soon as residents finish enjoying Sunday.
The proposal follows a 17-year campaign led by a coalition of sleepy residents, over-caffeinated parents and one unusually persuasive golden retriever. Council members said the measure passed after a 6–0 vote and a brief nap.
Local businesses are already adapting. The Bellwether Bakery has renamed its Monday special “Tuesday Eve,” while the municipal parking department says it will continue enforcing its rules on whatever day it is.
A transition committee will meet next week to decide whether the newly expanded weekend should have a name. “We’re leaning toward ‘weekend plus,’” said committee chair Fern Wobble. “We’re open to feedback, as long as it arrives after noon.”
